Another favourite tree...golden birch

the paper birch and the golden birch can be tapped for their sap in the early spring, much like the maple. It's colour..from the bark to the autumn leaves..is a lovely metallic gold! This specimen has emerged from the huge felled log of it's parent plant. the exposed root has golden bark ..just like the trunk!

Yes, birch sap has been made into syrup about as long as the maple sap. The native peoples used both tree's sap for medicinal purposes.. perhaps I can find a seedling for you Amy.

I didn't know there was a golden birch I have silver birch in my garden , can you use the sap in the same way as Maple ?
