Birds feeding On Fat Balls...A bit of a strange idea, don't you think?

When we walked to One Tree Hill, part of Langdon Hills Country park, today I was surprised to see( it's the first time I've been in a couple of years) that someone had hung several fat balls(the ones with plastic mesh) by a fence.It seemed rather a strange idea to me, although, obviously put there by a well meaning person who cares for wild life.But, at this time of year the area is teaming with,Hips, Berries,and allsorts for the birds to eat.And, wild birds/animals could get caught in the mesh! But, the Blue Tits(and Sparrows) certainly liked the idea!

I don't use them - bought some once - and had to go round picking up all the mesh parts - and the stuff goes mouldy and yes also the worry of trapping in the mesh

Loads of empty mesh left hanging on the tree/fence.not so bad in u'r own gardene, can clear them up when empty but they will clearly be left there!!,I didn't think, at the time, to pull the empty ones off and take home to bin!

Some one it seems Paul that knows not a lot about the mesh around the balls could be harmful for the birds, agree with you plenty out there still and they do say once you start feeding you must keep it up as the bird fly in leave from their native feeding ground to our gardens and if you don't continue they have nt the energy come winter to return to their native feeding grounds.

Although,in fairness, dawn, they probably stay on and around the country park all the time ,anyway!
