It is driving me crazy not to know the name of this one that was bought at the local nursery without any label. I've googled for days and cannot find it anywhere. The bloom is extra large and the plant is tall and it has lots of buds. It is a very dark maroon.

Wow, that looks just like a daylily I was looking at in my local garden centre yesterday ....the tallest daylily I have seen, with large flowers of a very similar colour. I won't be able to check out the name until my husband takes me there again on Saturday (Wednesday night here in NZ at the moment). Someone else will probably have told you it's name by then, but maybe not.

Colouring reminds me of 'Peacock Maiden' which does have 10inch flowers and is 2ft 7inch, but the midribs aren't white enough so can't be that, whatever it is it's lovely Daglelie, know what you mean though I like a plant with a name :-))

Maybe it is from a local hybridizer here in South Africa. We don't have any Hemerocallis society or something like that, I think people hybridize here and just sell them without ever register them with the AHS. But thanks for your comments Simbad and Dwyllis.

A name, or at least it's parentage is important, but now, if you want to use it for anything, you waste a lot of time finding out if it is a dip or a tet.
I'm trying out a tall pod parent cross this year - Sears Tower. It is 6 feet tall.

Yeah that's the problem, Wylie. I've crossed it with Bali watercolor and do hope it is a Tet - to give me some more tall ones with large blooms. Good luck with Sears Tower, it is really very tall!
