Delonix Régia

Christmas is my prefered season of the year. Every year the "signs" of Christmas are announced by the Flamboyants (Delonix Régia), the streets and gardens get dressed in red. Unfortunatelly the photography can't express the majesty of this tree. Photo take on Mauricio Cardoso Street - 05/12/2012

It's gorgeous! Is it located close to where you live?

I've never seen a Delonix regia this large here in San Diego.

Hi Delonix,
It is located 4 blocks from where I live. The house pertains to an old medical doctor, I guess he is around his 90s now. As you can see there are huge buildings surrounding the house. Actually his house is one of the last ones remaining in this street. Most houses have been demolished for being built skyscrapers.
I'm afraid when he passes away the destiny of the house will be the same... and fear that delonix will be cut down. :(

WOW! That's such a shame a large old tree would be cut down for a building! I know how it is, though. Here in San Diego people really fight for the trees (especially old historic ones).

A couple of years ago a very large red-flowering Corymbia ficifolia was going to be cut down due the sidewalk being destroyed in uptown San Diego. The neighborhood people fought the city and won. They decided to removed the side and put it around the tree. It was such a nice story. :>)

awww... thats a lovely story... I hope the builders will consider to keep the tree when they put down the house.
We have several Delonix spread through the city, planted on the streets and gardens it is so cheriiiiiiiiish!!!
My husband said I'll provoque an accident, because everytime I see a new one I stop to appreciate it... lol
dumb woman driver :D

I really hope they don't cut it down either. They could demolish the house without destroying the tree.

When I drive I'm always looking at the flowering trees and plant, also. lol! :>)
