Seems to go with:
'In the bleak mid winter,
Frosty wind made moan.
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone.'
One of my favourite carols.

Wildrose@what a pity, there is no melody :) Maybe it would be my favourite carol, too.

Im glad you liked that one, Gloucester Cathedral is not so very far from here, OH used to go there regularly!
When they do carol concerts Im always disappointed when they miss out the shepherd's pipe carol ~ you dont hear it often but it has such a pretty tune.

Sticki, so this is Slovak carol for you, they are called as "shepherds carols", as they are original folk carols from last centuries and come from mountain areas, where people were mostly shepherds and horse smugglers, lol. The introduction is with Shepherds´s pipe :)))

Anyway, I think this was the most beautiful Christmas song which was ever composed:

When I worked in Cracow, I used to go to St Maria Church there on Sundays and they always played there this music. It was the the church in which John Paul II worked as a a priest and later cardinal. I rememeber we were sitting there in one row - nuns, common citizens and beggars. That church was very strong.

I loved seeing the shepherds singing kat, the traditional costumes, the stamping and the backdrop of a little church all fascinated me.
Ave Maria, yes i know that too ~ powerful song, i really liked the little children dancing in too!
