I see a lot more flower buds this year and like how the plant looks surrounded by sandstone

Yes it flowers shortly after rhododendrons, usually early June here. The flowers are pink, long-lasting and beautiful. Most of my mountain laurels need a lot of attention but this one has been easy to care for so far. It is a dwarf form, it might reach 3 feet tall.

Yes I find the dwarf Rhododendrons I have flower longer and better, thank you for the information on the Laurel.
