Yes, it's a variety of C. sasanqua.

Mochiseki:

They hate heat! Most are planted on the north sides of buildings. Even then, some get burned in the heat of summer or fall (especially fall, when the hot Santa Ana Winds severely dry out the air and temps can reach more than 110ºF (44ºC) ).

I had tried them once,they just could not take it.Got roasted in the hot dry wind !

Yes, you if don't have a shady cool spot they're burn up.

There's a very large Camellia japonica a few blocks from where I live. It looks horrible. It's located under a tree on the north side of a house; however, it was severely burned back in late Sept. We had almost 10 hours of over 100ºF (38ºC) with only 8% humidity.

Come to San Diego. It was 78ºF (26ºC) yesterday and today. The next 4 days the temps are going to about the same.
