Sometimes it is possible for a plant to sprout a shoot that is different to the rest of the plant. I don't know what causes it but the shoot that is diferent is called a "sport". Fuchsias can do it and people have taken cuttings of the sport and grown them on to produce named varieties in their own right. There is one Fuchsia called "Swingtime" and it grew a sport that had golden leaves. This was grown on to produce a variety called "Golden Swingtime".
