This Silver-leafed Princess Flower tree was about 25 ft (7.6m) tall. I always though the tallest they grew was 10 ft (3.2m) tall. It was loaded with flowers and flower buds. Typically this shrub flowers in fall through early winter. Photo taken in Old Town, San Diego, CA. on President Day Weekend (Feb. 16, 2013).

The flowers are nice. I really like the large soft felt leaves...you kind of want to pet the tree's leaves. lol! I do, anyway.

I know what you mean!

The leaves on T. heteromalla are much larger and softer than T. urvilleana.

I know, but I was happy with mine!

The leaves from Miconia calvescens are the ultimate, ultimate in leaves in the Melastomataceae family. I don't think it grows here in San Diego. It's a horrible, noxious weed in Hilo, Hawaii. It can grow out of the stone walls there by the millions (I've seen them). It's called the "purple plague" on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Not seen this Tibouchina, we are growing the Urvilleana, had to start pinching it out was getting very large, and gangly.!!

I'm guessing the many species of Tibouchina are not available there. There's many species of Tibouchina and Melastoma which grow here.

I could not cope with any more plants in our garden room !!

That's funny! I can't cope with anymore plant in my front, side, and back yards. My yard is shrinking very quickly! Today was a beautiful warm day, so I cut back many trees and plants. It's just the beginning...I have lots to do still.
