i cant get hibiscus to grow in my garden ~ sorry, i mean i cant get it to flower ~ probably never warm enough here?

This one most likely could never grow there, outside permanently. This is the tropical Hibiscus.

i only have one ~ it was bought as a present for the mother in law ~ she gave it back ~ said she didnt like it!!!!!!!!!

If it's growing outside it's most likely one of the hardier species. The majority of Hibiscus species are native to the tropics (most are very tender to cold).

but it doesnt have any flowers! :-(

21 Feb, 2013

If it's a hardy Hibiscus species, most likely it's dormant. The tropical species of Hibiscus don't got dormant.

21 Feb, 2013

dormant for about 5 years? i will have to call it rip van winkle!

It must be dead! If you planted a tropical hibiscus there....there's not way it would survive your winter outdoors. Tropical Hibiscus cannot tolerate snow, frost nor freezing temps without freezing to death.

21 Feb, 2013

it was alive last summer ~ now it will just look dead but i expect in the spring all its leaves will appear ~ just no flower buds!

21 Feb, 2013

It most likely is a deciduous species of Hibiscus.

22 Feb, 2013

yes it is, im just not sure what else it wants ~ maybe its just too cold here?

22 Feb, 2013

It's quite possibly too cold. Most Hibiscus species do need some heat.

22 Feb, 2013

i better send it for a holiday!

That may work. LOL!
