Lovely Paul, and great pictures.I'm very envious ) or 'well jel' as some seem to think we all say in these parts..U won't be surprised to hear, we don't)... I've never had any success with these, either in the ground or pots with lots of grit in the compost!!!!!

22 Feb, 2013

Thanks DD and Paul - confession Paul this is an old pic - I only had 2 survived one from Cinders and a red one - most go soggy, plant them in sand grit everything - no luck :(

22 Feb, 2013

Oh, sorry about that...but it makes me feel better...ha ha! lots of photos being put on of these so I thought it was only me who kills them!!!!

22 Feb, 2013

No Paul I am no good with them - I love them but so do blackbirds , weevils sadly.

22 Feb, 2013

Yes, and they're not that kee on clay soil either, owe er much grit I dig in!!!!!

22 Feb, 2013

and to make us feel worse - they're supposed to be easy to grow :D

22 Feb, 2013

We should give up Paul....we're useless...ha ha ...take up origami or something as a hobby instead of gardening!!

22 Feb, 2013

not as easy as it seems ah :D

22 Feb, 2013

23 Feb, 2013

23 Feb, 2013

23 Feb, 2013

23 Feb, 2013

Another great photo !! Love the settings:-))))

23 Feb, 2013

Thank you Junna :-))))

23 Feb, 2013

We decided to make frames for them out of heavy duty polythene which we slipped over the sinks, and it has certainly worked, they have survived the winter wet this time......last year we lost so many.

23 Feb, 2013

I lost loads from winter rot DD :(

24 Feb, 2013

I don't understand how they are able to grow on a roof, if they cannot grow in ideal conditions in a pot?

24 Feb, 2013

no idea!!

24 Feb, 2013

I suppose they are of the succulent family and don't need all the soil to grow in. Their leaves take and supply water......that's my theory anyway. I may be completely wrong and in which case it's good to learn. LOL.

25 Feb, 2013

Lol Linda - once I get garden done I will buy some more :))

25 Feb, 2013

We are going to try less compost and more rocks in the sinks...

26 Feb, 2013

yes long as they get full drainage DD :-))

26 Feb, 2013

I am determined to keep them going this time...

26 Feb, 2013

good luck :)) I will try again some day

27 Feb, 2013

It's a good idea to put shingle and grit in the bottom of the sink then your compost with some stones to help drainage Dotty.

27 Feb, 2013

the only ones to survive here are on an old stone wall..always rot in pots no matter how much grit i put in..

7 Mar, 2013

Yes Sandra - they rot for me - grown them in the grittiest parts - only have 2 left - in greenhouse :D

7 Mar, 2013

They certainly don't like a lot of compost or soil.

8 Mar, 2013
