That's funny! I just posted a photo of some large Ficus benjamina at the Paradise Point Resort here in San Diego today.
Yes, Ficus benjamina has been in cultivation for a long time. I know some of the trees here in San Diego must be close to 100 years old (possibly older). Some Ficus trees can live for thousands of years.

They remind so much of when I was a kid. We always had so many in the yard. I think this one is Alocasia macrorrhiza.
I have several Alocasia species, varieties. The bugs love to eat the tubers, though.
