Mango wagon

Mango wagon

They will cut the mango fancy way, squeeze a little lime and add some chili peper powder on top. Mexican way to eat mango. Better than ice cream cone ?

Yum, yum, yum!! I love mangoes!

Last year was a good year here for mangoes. The San Diego County and Coachella Valley mangoes were flawless, and so sweet and good because of all the hot weather.

Klahanie:

The ones that are imported taste HORRIBLE! They have to go through a hot water bath which ruins their taste. Luckily, this Manila variety of mango is the easiest mango to grow in California.

I like these the best. 80 cents per kilo here.

Klahanie:

Yes, Manila mango is very good! There's virtually no fiber and the taste is wonderful. However, I need to find someone with a tree to get fresh home-grown fruit. :>)

Or plant one :-) We can get kilo for 9 pesos (80 cents)here but back home we pay like $2.50 each. (Sigh)

I used to have a Keitt variety mango tree for 3 years...then it died from being crowded out by other plants. As you know mango trees need full unimpeded sun all day to grow well.

I have been seriously thinking about planting a Manila mango. It's the easiest variety to grow here.

Do you have any mango trees? I know you have several papaya trees, right?

13 Mar, 2013

No, my mango tree died about 3 or 4 years ago and I never replaced it. I will most likely buy a Manila mango...as it's inexpensive and can be kept as a dwarf tree at 13ft (4m) tall.

Yes, I have many papaya "trees" (plants). Papayas trees have a short lifespan of only 4 - 10 years. Mangoe trees live for many hundreds of years and produce fruit for all those years. Mango trees are the largest fruit-producing tree in the world.

We have those vendors now. My father past away before it began. He would have loved to see them again.

They either ring a bell or have a honker. My wife who is Filipino likes the Mango with lemon juice.
