I Hope My Crown Imperial Frittillaries Flower this Year

Disappointing....hope they turn up this year!

That should help with flower production then. I have just planted some seeds of these, and lots more, but I expect to have to wait a few years to see mine in flower. I have not had any success with these in the past and thought if I grow them from seed they might survive.

These flowered for 4 or 5 years but not the last 2 . These are the orange/ red ones but the yellow ones are lovely too. At Beth Chattos garden in North east Essex(about 40/50 miles from here, she has huge clumps of both colours..absolutely fantastic!

Thanks! It's saying to feed them now.I thought that would be more likely to encourage foliage growth but I'll give it a go in the morning! Thanks

It does say a balanced fertiliser so your blood, fish and bone with an NPK of 6:6:6 or is it 7:7:7, one is Growmore the other is what you have been using already. The (N)Nitrogen will take care of your foliage, the (P) Phosphorus will take care of the roots, blooming and fruiting and the (K) Potassium will also help establish a good root system and strong stems. It will build up the plant for future years. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/profile.aspx?pid=95 recommend feeding spring flowering bulbs with tomato food. Have a look and see what you think.

Yes, thanks.I had a look.It seems a little strange using liquid tomato feed on bulbs in the ground, but, then again, it has the Phosphorus which helps fruiting in tomatoes etc and flowerin other plants, so makes sense but I would've though slow release type fertilisers like F/B/B wold be more suitable in the ground, wouldn't you.as I said, ear;ier, I did feed last summer, but perhaps I ought to again now by the look of this info....I'll put some fish/blood/ bone around them tomorrow, being careful not to touch the stems.Tat's the trouble once they've started to produce new stems!!! I'll report back in a few weeks on success or failure, Karen!!!
