My (home made) propagator

My (home made) propagator

Got this bamboo stand from work - stonework has been delivered to garden centres in this. So as soon as it was empty I grabbed it, managed to put in my van, get through my living room, kitchen and into the garden. At the begining I didn't know what to do with that, but winter was closing in - and it was perfect to store my little plants in it.
kept ventilating it during warm periods - looks like my plants survived.

Its difficult to see how this could be home made kasy ; )
Do you have to cut your way in to check on the plants?
good job

glad you liked it:)
few things failed in that design - flat roof didn't hold the rain, tape on and off to get into the plants wasn't a good idea either... but hey - it worked for me this winter ;-)

would velcro work? instead of the tape?

14 Mar, 2013

not sure Sticki. I'd have to attach it to the polythene first... strong glue or something... Tape was easier and quicker way to do it;-)

tape is good! some of the velcro is super strength

I like velcro as well - been using it at work. But problem with tape in this case was it didn't last long enough. after certain time of being taken off and attached again it lost it's strength. and dirt getting on it didn't help either...

brilliant Kasy..love a good bit of recycling. your propergator look very sturdy .whats in there?

Thanks Sandra:) it was ok for most of the winter, but the cover didn't last long...
what's in there? I started with softwood cuttings last year - successfully did evergreen azalea, pieris, few other bits and pieces. And then I started to bring little seedlings I was supposed to throw in a green bags at customers gardens - but just couldn't!
so that what was sitting on the two upper shelves. Bottom shelf it was a storage for some pots I was worried they might not like cold spells.
