There's a lot of tropical giant timber bamboos which grow here. They can grow more than 100ft (32m) tall.

Bamboo has become extremely popular, in recent years! It can be very expensive for some species. The clumping types are most popular.

Yes, this one is large. However, Quail Botanical Gardens (San Diego Botanical Gardens) has some of the largest specimen bamboo species I've ever seen (even including in Hawaii, where I'm originally from).

I could only imagine a suburban homeowner in soucal with 100+' Dendrocalamus. Those huge canes like big PVC pipes to carry city water..in there backyard. The ultimate "hard to grow things under them" plant!
