Mid-Autumn in N.E. Downunder - dwarf Azalea blooming

Dwarf Azalea??? Great was my surprise to see this wasn't a pink rose when I came here! I can now see from the leaves that it's not a rose but an Azalea after all!

Many years ago when we lived in Spain we had a lovely Azalea with bi-coloured flowers. I kept it going for at least two years, possibly 3, but I can't be sure of that any longer.

One of my two dwarf Azaleas is starting to die off, Balcony. I've had them growing in pots for over 10 years now. They have done remarkably well, and I'm really going to miss them when they finally go! Sounds rather soppy, I know!

Not soppy at all! We all grow fond of plants we have looked after for years. Is it too late to try for a few cuttings? That way you may be able to have it continue in its daughters.

I have definitely been thinking about taking cuttings, but need to find out just how to do it properly, as there are so many different versions of the best way and time to do it.

I've never taken cutting of Azaleas but you could do worse than prepare a few cutting & put them in some sandy, well drained compost & then keep the pots in a cool, shady place for a few months. But that may be asking a lot of your zone!

I imagine that even the shady places are very warm - even during your "winter"!

If your plant is dying as you say it would be best to take them as soon as possible as you may not be able to wait till the right conditions arrive to take them.
