Hmmm...I thought those slabs were sticking out a bit more! If you put down some wooden edging, you could have a gravel path, and do away with that pesky grass altogether.

Thank you everyone for looking in, I noticed you had no grass Paul, do not think though I could do away with it all together. The kids would do nothing but moan if they had no grass to sit on. lol. especially the youngest one. I have thought about gravel paths Karen, but the wheelbarrows do not push along as well on gravel and as they have to go all over the place I would be in trouble if they could not push them easily.

I had to write..when I read you saying "the children would do nothing but moan if they had no grass to sit on" that's exactly what my eldest does, she says she prefers the garden with all the grass it had before, but my answer to her was...I am sorry, but I am the sole gardener here, my idea of gardening is not to be a slave to it or spend hours cutting grass or fuss about straight lines, I want to have maximum enjoyment in the garden as in potter and just admire than to constantly having to cut the grass twice a week as the weather gets warmer. There are 3 grass area in different parts of the garden....but I did remove 95% of it...I choose plants over grass anytime...:))) have a great day..the sun is shining brightly this morning...I need the children to get back to school so that I can get my 5 hours in the garden again :))))

Hmm... I'm never sure what I prefer. As you know, I do love plants, but I like the effect of the green foil provided by the grass. However, I think it is the hardest work and most frustrating thing in the garden! Sometimes I would like to remove it all, but I think it's hard to sell a house without a lawn of some sort, and I'm always thinking about maybe having to sell up. No idea why.....but it just doesn't feel like a permanent home to me yet. but I think that is because I have moved around so much and nowhere will ever really feel like my 'for ever' home.

when you get the cottage with the duck pond and stream and the thatched roof maybe that will be your forever home Karen. lol. and a garden as big as you wish for and no noisey neighbours and no dogs barking ........... the list is endless. lol.
