It was a chilly morning, and the bee was sluggishly clinging to this flower where it must have spent the night

The bee really was hanging on for dear life that morning. It was 8 degrees celsius, which isn't overly freezing but I guess she wasn't ready for it. She may appear to be on her back in the picture, but I think it's more that gravity was making her lean on her side against the flower.
She was gone a few minutes later.
