Mid-Autumn in N.E. Downunder - Sunshine through the Coconut Palm

Yes, there's only two of the original four Coconut Palms left now. One died off of its own account, and one was knocked down by Cyclone Yasi. The other two are still kicking on though.

They were here when we moved, Marguerite. They would not have been a planting choice of mine. They look rather out of place with the native bushland in the background.

I wish I could grow a nice large coconut here in San Diego. Coconuts in San Diego typically look very sickly...there's very few exceptions. There's one at the San Diego Zoo which is the exception.

The two remaining ones are definitely healthy looking. They're still on the eventually-must-go list, but they're enormous and on a slope so they will be difficult to remove.

Yes Andy, I'm afraid the two remaining coconut palms will have to go. The original four were all planted along the fence line right next to our bush paddock. They looked so out of place with the native gums and acacias growing behind them.

One of the original coconuts looked like it had rotted out at the base, and it simply fell over one day across the fence. One was knocked down by Yasi, and now we're left with the remaining two. They always look messy with their dead fronds hanging down and they're now far too tall for anyone to reach up to trim off the dead fronds.

That's so sad! :>(
