It was very bright and bloomed early (April) for rhododendron...most of my other rhodies blooming in may so the buds are getting bigger now.
I am having hard time to find a replacement for Mrs. G.W. Leak.

Does this Rhododendron have a disease? If so, is there a cure?

I do not know Delonix, I suspect Phytophthora Root Rot but not really sure. This plant is probably 45 years old so it is hard to see it go. Rhododendrons can live over 100 years and we have some even older on the island so I cannot even say that it died of old age :-(

I will have to find some soil specialist because I will not want to plant anything new in the soil if there is a fungus such Armillaria in it.

I hope you can find a specialist to find out what's causing the slow-death of your Rhododendron! 45 years is a pretty young for a Rhododendron.

I'm having a similar problem with my 8ft tall Coffee tree. According to the certified nurserymen at my favorite nursery here in San Diego, it appears to be a problem with the root-system. I'm getting a lot of die-back on the branches which started about a year-and-half ago. Previous to the problem it was a very good grower and a super bloomer and produced thousands of coffee berries.

Here's some photos during its better days:

How old is your coffee tree.? I am a coffee lover and it would be neat to grow one...even if it would not produce beans. Those flowers in the picture are so delightful.

The tree is around 13 years old. It's been in the ground in the same spot since spring of 2004.

The flowers are very fragrant...smelling a lot like Gardenia (Gardenia is in the Rubiaceae [coffee] family).
