Hi FH2! We're in Refrew County, near Calabogie.

I've never even heard of that place!...either one
We used to go up to the Muskoka area when we were kids, I loved it there. Been a lot of places in Ontario but that was probably one of my favorites. I remember Rice Lake the most because we could go out on the boat to dive off & swim & you could still almost see the bottom of the lake!

Hi FH2...I was born and raised in Muskoka...in fact right on the shores of Muskoka Lake.(Milford Bay) I had a terrific outdoor childhood...especially in summer. Rice Lake is between Gravenhurst and Bracebridge, am I right?
Calabogie is a nice little summer buzzing hamlet on 508, 45 kms. from Matawatchan (where I live). We are on the extreme north-west corner of Renfrew County, which is pretty huge... due south is Napanee...west is Bancroft north is Pembroke and East is Ottawa. Wonderful place.

Yes! I remember Bracebridge also. I remember a place called 'Santa's Village' being there? Our parents brought us to lots of different places camping but Rice Lake is the place I think I loved the most. I'm not exactly sure where but do remember the name Gravenhurst. (I was young).
Lucky you :)
I think the farthest I went was up near North Bay. Mom owned a restaurant on Lake Nipissing (Chebogan Restaurant). The nearest town to them was called 'Field'. Talk about the 'boondocks'!

I feel like I'm in the 'Twilight Zone' tonight :)
After reading this I had gone to search wildflowers to see if I could identify one that I have & came across this website
http://www.pafn.on.ca/pafnnewsletter.htm
well the first link I click was this
The Swallow Volume 30 #2 Spring/Summer 2013
& I start reading...Renfrew County, Pembroke, Calabogie...what? seriously, what are the chances that I would stumble on this??

LOL...Fh2...life is full of lovely coincidences! I love North Bay...we were seriously considering looking for our retirement place in that area...but it was so far to travel to see prospective places..just couldn't be done. (we were in Cornwall for the previous 12 years.) If you want to find a really good site for identifying wild flowers may I suggest you google "Eastern Ontario Wildflowers" ...http://www.pathologyimagesinc.com/wildflowers/ will get you there, as well. Enjoy!

Mom's 2nd husbands idea of retirement was to buy this restaurant...only he used to sit around entertaining the guys who came in for a beer.
There were also 4 cabins & she was right on the lake...loved going there too only not during black fly season! They had so much they could do but she was always so busy. I do remember her husband going fishing, hunting, snowmobiling etc while she literally ran the place (restaurant & bar). She sold it when he got sick & took care of him till he died & then she came back home :)
She went to visit people up north that she missed only to find the restaurant burned to the ground.
Thanks for the link, I have a few more I would like to look into.
