Slad, I uploaded next photo of the same shrub and would like to know your opinion. It has now very many flowers and branches are banding over the ground. Last year they were upright. I do not know why. I followed recommendation which was, that if I want more flowers, I have to cut the oldest branches at the ground and leave just 1 or 2-year old, what I did in february. Is that the reason?

It could be Kat, I normally prune shrubs like this after flowering that gives it a good chance to recover and put on new growth, the do like a good hard pruning but watch out for Verticillium wilt which can affect it. But I think you should be ok.

Verticillium? Some Vergilius among parasites? Have to check what is it. Thank you very much.

I think this is what had my rhododendrons. Because their dying off started after long and dry spring and summer, too.

Yes sounds like the die back syndrome Kat, only way to tell for sure is to cut a lump off and check the stem to see if there is any black discolouration inside.
