No paul not that - it grows its stem out of a circle/ruff like arrangement of leaves. Maybe when it flowers we shall be able to find out what it is, it looks like it is a flower but have no idea which one, it is in a clump as if it has been planted but I cannot remember planting anything where it is that looks anything like it. Maybe put it on the questions page for id. someone will know I am sure. thanks for trying :O)

I thought you might know Karen, it is in a spot just looking like it has been planted there. Not near a bird feeder so unless a bird dropped the seed have no idea. Will put it on questions page and hopefully someone will know.

That's interesting.....I see Willowherb is the only suggestion made on u'r question.This seems to be stumping us all.I still think possibly it is some kind of Willowherb....maybe a relative we've not seen before!!!!!

Maybe there is but I am thinking of waiting and seeing if it flowers and then maybe we shall be able to identify it. The thing is I bought some plants a couple of years back late on in the season (IN SALE) and it could be one of them which didn't materialise last year. They were not what they were supposed to be and I did complain and they refunded half the money so it could well be something out of that little batch. We shall see, thanks for trying. Showery today Olive! And the grass was wet from all yesterday's and last night's rain! But I had to get out and do a bit so cut a couple people's lawns(hard work as they were wet) and trimmed some shrubs and hedges.Off out in a moment to plant up some pots.....I can do that even if it does rain!

Well I've just looked at the google images of willow herb, and it doesn't look like that at all really....it does have a purple tinge doesn't it...like willowherb..which would suggest pink or purple flowers...but the foliage is quite different...oh well,...time will tell.

It has now got a pink flower spike on it and after someone named it for me as being Veronicastrum I think that may be the answer to this, it is going to look very pretty when it opens up.

Excellent! I'm glad you've solved it. I've not grown veronicastrum.

I have no idea where it has come from Karen, another pressie from the birds maybe. I saw it in the garden at Caisitor on Monday when we went to look at the crocosmias. It was a white one and they had a bluish/purplish one too. Nice to be able to name it. LOL :O)
