I moved these in order to start digging the foundation for my sun room....on the south end of the house..facing the forest...many big boulders to use...the base will be field stone/rubble...have to find some nice big windows and a skylight for the roof!...the umteenth project.

You always have a new project under way Lori ,this one sounds an enormous one to take on . Good luck with it and be careful you don't strain your muscles !

lol...I am famous for starting...then taking a very long time to finish! The digging is tough because of all the stone and gravel...and it's true that it's not hard to strain muscles you never knew you had, when working with them. Have been looking on the web for stone construction experts...forgot to mention another project...my hobbit house/cabin. I'm digging into the side of the hill and using rocks and logs ...it may not be used as a cabin but as a winter storage bunker. All remains to be seen. so much to do ..so little time/energy. ;-)

I'm worn out just listening to you LOL ... x A hobbit house would be a fairy tale come true :o)

will have to post a pic of the excavations! It is hard to work at the edge of the forest at present because of the blackflies and mosquitoes...I come in at the end of the day and I'm down a full quart of blood! X-/

LOL , you could write a book about your exploits Lori with some of your funny captions added ,,I can see a pic of you staggering into your house and heading straight for the transfusion chair ;o))

some days I can laugh about it ..and some days it's not so funny. Added to the blood sucking community in recent days are the horse and deerflies...( btw...a friend said that she saw a moose in the little swamp at the south end of our property!) If the flies are bad in the bush I'm sure that's why he's standing in the swamp!

Do you have special sprays to use for your body to ward them off Lori , I friend was bitten by a horse fly he swelled up enormously and was in pain for ages !

The bites are extremely painful...my mom used a piece of bread, moistened with boiling water and a pinch of epsom salts. When the bread cooled and the es crystals had melted into the bread she would slop the drippy mess over the bite and seal it in with bandaids... it would draw the insect's saliva out of the wound and even with those measures you would hurt for days. I found that the sprays (like deet) have health issues attached to them...I don't use anything. Terry bought me a bug shirt to use when they are worst...it's a torture too... so some days I just give up and stay indoors.

have you tried the Avon Skin so soft? I always heard people say that was good, they have a bug repellant that is deet free.
that was always the worst part about northern Ontario for me...the mosquitos & black flies...the black flies are worse at some times than others aren't they? mosquitos never quit!

It sounds like a nightmare to me , If I'm bitten by a mosquito here the infected bite swells up as large as a marble your M's are probably much bigger than ours .. :o(

Amy...I kid you not! I think after living in the north Hub and I could collaborate on a treatise on the many species of mosquito and their characteristics...for instance...in the early part of the season there are the small black, lite and bite mosquitoes...like little missiles, they don't waste time circling..they just come right in for a target...any target!..and their bites itch like mad!
FH2...I can't stand the smell of Skin so Soft...can see why the mosquitoes don't like it! Have a bug shirt, when I can stand to wear it!
7 Jun, 2013
LOL ... No! I mustn't laugh it's seriously not funny !!!

Amy you sound like you may be allergic to them, my nephew was & when he was young they ended up bringing him to the hospital because they didn't realize that he had been stung by mosquitos, never seeing anything like that before on anyone!

I think I am Flora they infect me badly , when I'm bitten they come up like a huge blister I have to cover them to stop them breaking even when they are better they leave a dark scar mark , for months sometimes , I can't begin to imagine what it's like over there :o(

oh my! that sounds awful :(
for some reason the mosquitos don't like me too much :D

It must be something to do with skin types Flora because they never touch my hubby , he says it's because I smell .. LOL .. I say it's because I smell sweeter ;o)

It's all in the blood, Amy! some of us are just succulent! (that kind of distinction I can do without.) You're very fortunate, FH2!!! A paste of baking soda helps...but a person looks frosted, and you leave a white trail. All kidding aside, Amy, your reaction sounds severe have you seen an allergist? we have West Nile Virus to worry about.

I agree! My 'idiot' neighbour didn't quite drain his above ground pool 2 years ago...there's about an inch of green swampy looking water on the bottom of it...he has 3 small children & one on the way.

OMG!...too bad we can't pick our neighours!
16 Jun, 2013
yeah, no kidding! He put bleach in it yesterday, only hoping he doesn't drain it into my garden along the fence....again :(
