Tradescantia zebrina - Wandering Jew

Tradescantia zebrina - Wandering Jew (Tradescantia zebrina - Wandering Jew)

I'm so glad I didn't plant this into my yard! A friend from GoY who lives here in San Diego, CA gave me some cuttings and said it was good ground cover. Now, he finding out how invasive it is. I have Tradescantia fluminensis which I can't get rid of...it just keep growing back! This is after I dig it out and mow it down constantly! Photo taken June 15, 2013.

I used to grow this as a houseplant, decades ago, you've brought back memories for me with this photo. I couldn't grow it outside here, too cold. Didn't know it was invasive.

Yes, the green form of this plant drives me insane! It cannot get rid of it! I've pretty much given up on killing it...as it's not going to happen.

I like this species. It's has nicer leaves than the green form. However, it can grow very quickly in the ground and take over a huge area here in San Diego, CA.

Isn't it fascinating how gardeners in different countries find different species a problem! I'm trying to imagine what this would look like taking over a patch of garden! At least it's very pretty:)

Yes, it pretty amazing what's a house plant in one climate and grows wild in another climate.

I have a major problems with spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum) in my garden, also. It grows wild in all the shady areas.
