Coming to think of it.. my folks also used to say that these bloom particularly well during dry spells but lately they bloom all round the year... talk about changing weather and global warming.. :)

That's amazing that Delonix regia would bloom year-round!
Delonx regia is native to Madagascar's monsoonal climate. It loves to be very dry during the winter and very hot, humid and rainy during summer. It's an extremely drought tolerant tree. It grows very well in the low subtropical deserts of California (Palms Springs in the Coachella Valley) and Phoenix, Arizona (Valley of the Sun), where temperature are extremely HOT! (some of the hottest deserts in the world).

It's amazing they bloom so well in the rain. I know they love the dry weather for their bloom cycle.
