Lilium regale - The long-awaited Event

At last the buds of this Lilium have opened, delayed by a cold, late Spring and lack of sunshine. The large, slightly campanulate flowers do not look so spectacular as the more highly colored and open flowers of many other species but the powerful, heady, delicious scent more than makes up for that and there is always next year, perhaps better conditions and better things.
