Beautiful even in the rain....

It really is, isn't it. I don't know who 'Rosella' is/was, but what a lovely lily to be named after.

How did your open garden do B?

First day went well, second one not too well due to bad weather in the morning, third one - not worth opening, also due to weather. I've had some donations since, though, and shown a few people round personally. They can be added to the total. :-)

this is a pretty one too.

Thanks. I put a pot of them into the border to liven it up. ;-)

Pretty one. It's similarity to one that I had in my last garden, called Vermeer, made me look twice. We have had abundant rain this spring but it's been cool along with it. I'm not complaining...I can spend hours in the garden when it's raining. (no mosquitoes or sun stroke!)

I think I used to grow 'Vermeer' and you're right. I think it was a bit paler.

Don't mention abundnat rain - we had that last summer and autumn, which caused flooding. :-((

oh yes...sorry to see all the trouble you had, B. We had a mini-flood this spring...thank goodness the water didn't reach the house or greenhouse but nearly took our our firepit ...someone demolished an old beaverdam uphill from us and it all came rushing down...black dirty and stinking into my little stream valley, taking away some recently added Iris and my Ligularia "desdemona" ...and cutting the banks back even further than I had done with my trusty spade. You know what they say about making lemonaide...well, if I was very honest I should say that it was a benefit in that I don't have to do much more excavation along the banks...but it almost took out the culvert under our driveway...we would have been marooned! I'm still waiting for my lilies...

It's very upsetting losing plants that way, though. I'm glad it had a positive effect too.

Hope you managed to recoup your plants as well, B. I've been on here sporadically and have missed some blogs...remember seeing your new garden wall. Spending as much time as I can manage out in the garden, which is in it's third season under my spade! It has taken all of the three summer seasons...but is starting to look more like a garden...so many rocks!
You've had your plate full with house and garden work after your flood...hope all is well now.

Mostly, thanks. I lost most of my 'mediterranean' type plants from the front bed which was under water for longest. I replaced the lavenders and Caryopteris, and cut lots of dead wood from the Cistus, but it still looks dire, so I may replace that, too.

The house is all done, thank goodness. Four months living upstairs wasn't a lot of fun.
