Mochiseki:

Thanks! I have to keep an eye on it...as we're heading into to some extreme heat over the next week. The very hot and humid weather from the monsoonal flow is coming into San Diego County early this year.

Its a terrible houseplant. Its one thing to keep them alive..but to have one blooming and that size is amazing. I had one..and the indoor season killed it off. Im down to A.arabicum..and that has flirted with root rot a couple of years.
Its the difference between Sunset z17 here and z24 down there.

This plant has an interesting story. The first year I had it we had about 28" of rain (winter of 2004-2005, I believe) which broke a 7 year drought. It was a very small plant in a plastic container outside and was constantly wet. I couldn't believe it survived that wet winter!

I lost two really interesting varieties (a variety which changed white flowers to blush and 'Ice Pink') 3 winters ago. It was a very dry, warm winter; however, I watered them too much during that dry period and they died.

A shallow pot and very fast drying medium is the best way to keep these plants alive during a wet winter. They prefer the warmest spot in the yard, also.
