DD - they are both as b****y difficult down here in the south. The problem, as I understand it, is that they make several rosettes in a moist climate, but that any rosette that flowers then dies. In dry areas, there is not enough moisture for them to make new rosettes; so they flower on the only one they have made and then die. Last year, being so wet, mine made new rosettes, but I'm not holding my breath for next year.
Scottish gardeners will smugly tell you this plant is easy to grow!

Thanks for that Andrew, cant be doing with that, have enough problems with ordinary plants, rust, blackspot, mildew, beetle, sawfly, vine weevil, dont want make my life any more difficult, just hoped the white might have been easier!!
