This is my favourite shot of the season so far.. too bad the effect is lost in the shrinking of the picture :(

This clematis was here when we moved in and didn't have a tag, but I believe it's clematis viticella ‘venosa violacea' (violet stargazer).
I'm in zone 5a, and it grows very quickly and blooms profusely. The last two years I've cut it down to approximately 18 inches or less, and it grew better than any of the other clematis we have around the property. This year I've left it about 4 feet (it hadn't been pruned in any way the previous 3 years and did very well too) to see how it does.
