They are in the ground but like quite a few moisture lovers they are suffering with the heat been there about five years and have chopped a few pieces off and replanted them.
Nearly lost them a couple of months after buying they started to collapse could not understand so lifted them back out the ground and found they were riddled with Vine weevil grubs which had to have been imported with them that cost them about three quarters of their roots.
as for smaller flowers possibly exhausted the soil .
Drc these are close to a quite dense Camellia so possibly a bit drawn ,although there are shorter varieties I have one called Sprite only about 8 inches high.

Wow, Beautiful Brian. Are they in the garden or a tub. Mine are in a tub for the second year running, and although they are lovely, they are not such large spikes.
