Mandevilla 'Red Ridding Hood'

Mandevilla 'Red Ridding Hood' (Mandevilla 'Red Ridding Hood')

My Mandevilla blooms all year outside here in San Diego, CA. It loves hot weather and sun. Photo taken July 22, 2013.

Yes, most Madevillea species grow super fast.

My white had to be cut right back this year, and it's not back to its former glory just yet. I'm not sure what caused the damage to it, but something had been trying to either climb it or pull it down to nibble on!

Sometimes plumerias can take a while to recover. My beautiful Plumeria obtusa 'Singapore' is struggling for some reason this year.

The Mandevilla's have a good amount of cool tolerance. I've had them for years do fine all year outdoors. The red "Parasol" series plants bloom 10 months of the year. Very tropical looking vine-shrubs. They will though burn blooms in hottest summer days (90+),but they shed those and are back to normal when temps return.

Yes, it's one of my favorite flowering plants. I love Mandevilla 'Alice du Pont' and M. boliviensis. I had both in the SF Bay Area growing very well. M 'Alice du Pont' always seemed to attacked by aphids, though.

I've never had them burn even in 100ºF weather here in San Diego. They are ever-blooming here.
