We call it flowering maple, although the genus is not related to the true maples.
I bought a small plant earlier this year to se if it will survive here in my garden on Vancouver Island.
I planted it in the landscape rather than leaving in a pot.
So far so good it had lots of blooms during the summer....and it is still blooming.
I am not sure if it is favored by deer on not. So far I have not noticed any nibbling.

Its flower resembles hibiscus... i think this could be the same family as hibiscus; Malvaceae..

Yes it is Kaustubh. It does resemble hibiscus, but these flowers are tiny. The shrub is very pretty, has attractive leaves and usually loaded with these small flowers.

I just posted the picture last night. This morning there was no Abutilon ....completely stripped. So now I know it is well loved, they just have to find it. I will dig it out and put it in the pot (it will recover-I hope) and move it where the deer cannot get at it.
(sigh)
