It's one of my favorite flowering trees. I have one large tree in my backyard...and several seedling trees. The fragrance of flowers on this very beautiful tropical tree is incredible!

The ones from the seed that you sent me are coming along nicely!

That's great! They germinate very easily and quickly.

I'm not sure why Alexandramou could get hers seeds to grow. She has so much heat there in Greece, which they love.

Heat/light ratio wrong? Just a thought..............

Meanie:

I meant to say: Alexandarmou was not able to get her seeds to grow. Sorry!

Ah.......
Germination was not great, but they seem reasonably sturdy plants now. Just need some climate change to happen now (in a good sub-tropical kind of way though)!

I usually get my M. lutea seeds to germinate within 3 or 4 days during summer.

Markhamia will tolerate somewhat cool temps in winter. Lows of 50ºF (10ºC) or slightly lower and highs of 65ºF (18ºC) are best for winter time. Consistently cool temps will cause the tree to loose its leaves and freezing temps are usually lethal (it's always lethal for seedlings). It is a Congo African native tree from the tropical rain forest, after all.
