Been growing well all year but only just in bloom.

It's going in the ground next summer now that it's big enough and it should take of then.
Got B.salsilla coming along from seed too.

It's one of my faves Amy! Worth the effort IMO.

Is Bomarea hirtella hardy in your climate?
23 Aug, 2013
It is if deep enough and free draining.

I'm guessing it dies to the ground in winter?
23 Aug, 2013
It does. Even in the pot I withdraw water and rest it over the winter.

Of course, I was just guessing...but, I guessed correctly.
I'm used these vines as being evergreen here in California.

B.hirtella is probably less happy than some of the other Bomarea species there? It's probably the best one for the UK as it prefers cooler temps - struggles in the greenhouse.

B. hirtella is definitely one grown here. I can't remember the other species, though. They could be selected hybrids...because there's a lot of them.

I love these vines! Most Bromarea species are incredibly ornamental! Some species can grow to become massive vines, though.
