This chili pepper plant is in a pot. In the ground it becomes huge, almost tree-like in about two or three years. Photo taken Aug. 19, 2013.

I don't usually eat spicy foods. I do usually put a couple in chili beans...which I like pretty spicy hot.
That's very strange your pepper plants haven't grown very well this year. I know you've had some hot weather and they love heat!
I can't remember which Capsicum species this is....all I know is that is can grow very tall and large in only two to three years. This is why my plant is in a pot (which is already 3 years old). Large tree-like shrubs can be very beautiful around Christmas...as the peppers turn from green to orange, red, purple and black. It looks like a Christmas tree with ornaments without the shape, though.
