Looks good. You paint a picture of a very difficult spot in your profile, what with the clay, frost pocket, snow,wet & all, but you seem to be succeeding nevertheless. I'm on sand which needs enriching with compost all the time, so try to go for plants which like poor soils. Poppies grow like weeds, which is nice.

Thanks Feverfew, that just happens to be the bed I have dug up and worked the most in the 8 or so years we've been in this house. One of the other beds is in a new patch, after we moved a fence and it is struggling much more as the soil hasn't been well enough broken up for decades! I agree with you, you need to plant for your own garden conditions...your Poppies sound fab!
