Botrytis aka "Sudden Daphne Death"

If you've ever heard of a healthy daphne suddenly dying this is usually why. Botrytis is not all that noticeable from a distance and spreads quickly. Notice the stem on the left has wrinkled, olive-green leaves toward the bottom. I try to check my daphnes daily to prevent this but there has been a lot of rain and heat lately which never helps! Hopefully I was able to prevent it spreading by removing the infected branches.
