Oh, so that's why we lose them! I really like them too!

Paulthegarden@I do not know that Echinace would be so demanding regards the soil. But you can make the clay and heavy soil more fertile for plants. Just dig it and add some manure and bark...

Yes, I've been doing that for the last 10 years Katarina but u can only change it so much and have to go with the soil and grow what does suit it.but, it's not the fertility that's a problem....clay soil is very high in nutrient, but it stays damp and cold which some plants can't stand! I had Echinacea 'White Swan' which struggled on for about 3 years but eventually gave up!

Yes, so now I understand, it is not just about soil, but also about other factors. One thing which you mentioned, I would like to highlight - Echinacea loves sun and warm. That is definitely true.

mine being a south facing, very warm garden, that wouldn't be a problem so it points to the soil in my humble opinion!

I see.

Still, here it is written, that they arenĀ“t so demanding regarding soil or position. So I do not know.

Oh ,we'll, a mystery then......but they didn't like my garden and the same with some of my neighbours!

I have very light soil, but my echinaceas never seem to last, either! But they are lovely - I love the shape of them.

Oh, we'll that's my theory gone....ha ha! I see lovely pictures of them but can't seem to grow them!

It could be your soil and my inefficiency, Paul!

Ha ha....I'm sure not!

Very nice Katarina. These won't ,unfortunately, grow in my heavy clay soil.
