Red onions from sets.

In recent years, when growing garlic, I start the cloves off in 3" pots in the greenhouse, planting them out when a good root system is established. As last spring was late and the soil very cold, I used the same method with my onion sets and also some spring onions; putting 5-6 seeds spaced out in a 3" pots planting out when roots show at the bottom of the pot, and the soil has warmed up. I had very good results, with all of them
I liked to help may dad in the garden when I was a boy, and he showed me how to "string" the onions; this is still one of my favourite jobs in the garden.

This is how we do ours David ,don't they look great ! we also grow a few garlic bulbs at the base of roses to keep off aphids etc. I'm not entirely sure it works but we still have a go !
