The trouble is, you wait and wait for the right moment...

...then it's too late!

Karen, if they are soft they are ripe. Pick them and eat them. I loooove figs, especially the ones that are white inside. yum yum.

Hi J! I just found out that the fruits are the flowers, inside out, lol, :)x

These are the first ones to ripen...or, should I say, over-ripen, Alex. I missed them! lol :)
The rest are still rock hard. We need a bit more sun. Hopefully, this week...fingers crossed.
I love them too...but, I've never tasted a white one! :)

They taste divine, Bloomer...straight off the tree...or cooked in open tarts...or roasted with chicken...
Lol, I've got two trees and if all those figs ripen, I'll have to get creative... :)

They are lovely! I had them in Kent, straight off the tree. I prefer them dried of course...sweeter. but when you realise that they are flower buds...isn't that amazing?!

I've never had syrup of figs, J...but, its reputation goes before it...

K, I was just sitting and wondering how come there are no flowers before these fruits? So I googled it. It makes complete sense once you know, though, doesn't it?

Lots of mine are going into cognac...and, maybe some other experimental liquors...for Christmas time. Yummy!

I picked a fig once & started to eat it & then discovered it had a small worm inside, the same colour as the flesh. I have never had the courage to try one since! We were always given Syrup of Figs as children. It didn't taste that bad really.

Eew, that's the trouble with them when they're really ripe, Feverfew...critters inside. In this garden, it's ants...yuk...

Gone off figs now, not that I've ever tasted them lol, but like the sound of the liquors or Liqueurs, sans critters. I had a maggoty thing in a pear I was eating when about 6 years old ... never ate one again for about twenty years:-))

I've got my first (ever!) three pears, ripening, Ba...as we speak! I've been really excited!
...they already look a bit manky, though...so, I might just give them a miss, this year... :)))
