Autumn crocus

This has long lasting flowers without foliage in September and October. After the flowers die back there is no sign of it until the Spring when it sends up large broad leaves.

I had this growing where it was hard to see unless you were quite close to it. I moved it to its present position where it can be seen by ourselves and visitors as we go up and down the drive. I was delighted to find I now have two clumps because I must have left some of the original root in the other part of the garden. It does have a tendency to keel over at the first whisper of wind.

I used to have some of these too. They are unusual, think mine were pink.
