Often you see a daylily described as 'black red', and I think this is a good example of the colour. This has also finally started flowering - I got it last fall as a bonus plant and it took all summer to settle in.

It looks like velvet, lovely.....

The velvet effect is caused by the very top layer of cells being in the shape of an onion instead of being rounded - I read about on a website where they had looked at everything under a microscope.

Very interesting Wylie I have one called 'James Marsh' which has the same velvety texture.
There's been some crazy bidding going on on ebay!!! I spotted one I quite liked called 'Black Falcon' but when I searched it on Tinkers it didn't really look like the picture on ebay, which looked more like 'Black Falcon Ritual' , so I didn't bother bidding, anyway I added it to favourites and looked to see what it went for £80.33!!! now if it was 'Black Falcon' I wouldn't have thought such an old variety would go for such a price and 'Black Falcon Ritual' is on Sheilas for £15!!!!, another couple that can be bought from Pollies for around £5 went for silly prices to, very strange.
There's a nice one called 'Green Eyed Lizard' but looks like the same people are bidding on that so I won't be joining in lol.

I agree going crazy that person selling all his plants of must be rubbing his hands together.
I do have one fan of "North Wind dancer" going spare and Wootens have that on sale for £80.10 !!! I am tempted as I dont think any other nursery has it for sale ??
