Interesting looks like fasciation is it? with the flattened stem, I've had it happen on a delphinium and a rudbeckia but never a daylily, be great it if flowers :-)

Yes, Simbad, it is fasciation - another big word I've learnt now, ha ha. I will be ready with the camera when it blooms, but I doubt that there will be space for the blooms to open.
