I absolutely love Gardenia! It reminds me of Hawaii. :>)

They do have such a wonderful perfume. It's fantastic that they bloom during our late Spring/early Summer because the scent is quite heady hanging in the humid air of that time of year.

Yes, the fragrance is so wonderful! It also reminds me of the San Francisco Bay Area (when I lived there) I used to see huge 10' (3m) tall and wide shrubs of the 'Mystery' variety. I used to have some in my yard, also. (but not so large) The flowers are huge (to more than 6" or 15 cm wide) and so powerfully fragrant. The 'Mystery' variety is commonly used in corsages.

That would be a stunning sight, a shrub that tall and wide covered in blooms.

It is a very stunning sight! I wish I had a digital camera back then!

My Aunt in Hawaii used to have gigantic Gardenia 'Mystery' shrubs by her front windows of her house (back in 1982). This is when I fell in love with this variety of Gardenia. Of course, I had to get some. lol!

I can imagine the fragrance that would waft inside the front windows of your aunt's house when the shrubs were in full bloom. It would be heavenly.

The fragrance was out of this world! Gardenia 'Mystery' blooms heavily all year in Hawaii's very tropical climate.

I might have to look out for it to see if it's available here.

Gardenia jasminoides 'Mystery' is the most commonly available Gardenia variety here in California. I think it's so popular because it has the largest flowers of any variety.
