Paisley Abbey

Paisley Abbey

It was a lovely day on Friday when we visited here. The old town centre is impressive. Paisley was a very prosperous town when the textile trade was at its height - the town hall complex is very grand, but it was the Abbey that I really loved. It dates from the 12th century, and some of the early Stuart kings are buried here.

Looking at this you would not think it is in such a busy situation.

No, you wouldn't, would you, Scotsgran? It's only a hop, skip and a jump away from the shopping centre. The Town Hall complex and the Abbey are in a park-like area with the River Cart running through it. You come round the corner of the Town Hall, and there is the beautiful old Abbey. It's a real surprise when you're not expecting it (and I wasn't!)

My very last public concert was in Paisley Town Hall Melchi. Brahms Requiem. One of my favourite works and a great one to go out on!

Brilliant!

It's a shame to see so many empty shops in Paisley at the moment, but that seems to be the same all over the place - here included.

Yes, I avoid Town Centres as much as ossicle. Very depressing. However, Dundee is having a massive make-over, which will reinvigorate the City, and hopefully bring more shops and eateries. It will be a few years yet, but it will be wonderful when finished. :) and we are getting a V&A as well, so things are on the up. :)

That's really impressive! Things are bound to take a turn for the better eventually. Our towns and cities have plenty of life in them yet!

Oh, I do hope so Melchi. We need to go back to the small independent shops in city centres. Specialists that offer something different to the massive chains.

We certainly do...
