For the birds.
I was tidying my pots yesterday and found 1 (ONE) vine weevil when I pulled some old leaves. Plant itself was still nicely rooted - but what I found was bit scary I have to say... so spring time I am ordering some nematodes.
as you can assume I left them yesterday for birds - checked this morning - almost all were gone. Have some blackbirds visiting recently - they had an apple for themselves - so looks like they had the white, fat (bleep), lol

Brian - looks like black birds just loved them. The next day there was nothing left. I don't think they made it back to the soil - is so wet and compacted - it would take them some time to do so.
Thank you for your advice regarding the nematodes - will bear it in mind.
I've used Provado in past - last autumn I treated some pots, but didn't do one in my front garden. I don't mind using chemicals - but I was thinking about more friendly method.
And after reading the blog Sandra wrote a while ago I am using horticulture grid mixed with compost. It seems to be working fine - that batch I found in a pot which was pure compost...
Katarina - brrr indeed... lol

Ones I have got I just extract the plant n put the clump of earth in front of the chickens and they love pecking them out : )

Should I get a chicken in my garden Stevie? or I know - my friend has got 2 - maybe I can borrow them next time? lol. Or maybe yours would be better as they are already trained? haha

Kasy be careful leaving them for the birds Most won't even touch them they taste that bad, there is an evens chance they have burrowed back down in the soil,Even my fish spit them out .
As for the nematodes I have used them in the past on my Primula collection in the glass houses with fair success but unless you have a sustained warm spell outside their effect was poor because they did not breed well enough.
Provado is reliable but if you wish to stay organic keeping them under control is a bit hit and miss.
