Frosty morning at Devonia - January 2014

The tree is malus floribunda. The long strip beds are where I used to grow vegetables; they are now too shady, and have been converted to grow small woodland plants.
Beyond it used to be the flowering cherry (removed last autumn) and old-fashioned roses - this area is now much more open and sunnier

It's interesting how we change gardens and how they develop.... maybe because of trees becoming too large ...

Which woodland plants are you growing ?

TT - quite a large range, as there are four beds, all with slightly different mounts of shade and moisture.

The one closest to the camera gets afternoon sun, and contains mainly candelabra primulas.

The next is probably the shadiest, and has robust woodland plants such as anemone japonica 'Whirlwind', mahonia gracilipes, and roscoeas.

Just beyond the malus is the driest bed where I am growing arisaemas and trilliums, plus an established desfontainea spinosa

The bed furthest from the camera gets morning sun, and has very small plants, for example hepaticas, dodecatheons, soldanellas, and cortusa

Looking forward to more pics when the plants come into flower :o)
Adding this to GoYpedia Small Garden Ideas ...

Gets my vote, too, Terra and, like you, I look forward to seeing the fruits of Andrew's hard labour, as I recall seeing the old cherry tree domineering the space.
